Lets stop brain drain ?
I had my Primary education at a school just yards away from my house. Then, I (was) moved to a different school for my Upper Primary education. Then to a different school at the nearest city for the Secondary education.
Why was that I moved to different schools in spite of the earlier ones following the same model and syllabi? Just that I was told that they are better schools.
Let’s dig deeper now. In my case, after Xth std, our school topper decided to stay at the same school for his secondary schooling. The 2nd and the 3rd rankers moved to different schools. But the secondary school results were no different. My Xth school topper was still the topper and the 2nd and 3rd were still 2nd & 3rd, in spite of different schooling.
Are schools getting better bcz of better students joining them (or) Are students getting better bcz of the better schools? It’s more of a Catch 22. But the first choice seems to be better!
So, is it good to force people to study at the nearest school? No, it looks absurd! It’s against the law of economics. It prevents competition and develops complacency. Schools should do their best to retain their best students.
But, if the analogy can be applied to people moving abroad, I would say
i) Same people would have attained the same level of success even if they had stayed in India bcz of their hard work
ii) Indian institutes should do their best to attract their best people instead of complaining about BRAIN DRAIN.

Dont go with the first item in the summary. Some people might grow the same way irrespective of the place. But how do you know that for sure before growing? and who is ready to take risk?
I get admission at IIT, I decide to go to PSGtech thinking that I will grow the same both places? I call this kind of decision stupid. PSG itself is great but when I get better option, I should take that.
tell me how many places in India we have for higher studies? say PhD. Being from IIT I know the standard of research there.
so my take on this issue is this.
1) get out of the country as soon as possible
2) grab as much as possible from abroad in the shortest time.. say 8-10 years
3) come back home to india and distribute all the knowledge you got from abroad.
if you look back into to colonial ages, this is what they did. went to colonies, collected all the wealth and took it home.
this age, wealth is technology. go get it from where we have it. in the process, we might have to give also a little.

You are absolutely right. I have very much tilted the story to suit my needs.
"Actually, the reasons were derived for the conclusions"
The hidden side of the story:
The 2nd and 3rd thought that they were already in a better place, remained complacent and didn’t work hard as they used to work earlier. Even then, I should accept there was a drastic change in the entire personality of these people.
So, everything else remaining same, a better place is definitely going to help one achieve his goal faster and no doubt about this.
Even if someone does not have the same level of opportunities, an extra effort (hard work) could fetch him the level of success he has dreamt off. Right?
"Hard work is the shortcut to success".
